Meet Serena
Serena is a Mum to two children who bring her joy, and is married to her best cheerleader.
She lives in the North West of Sydney but loves the beach.
She describes herself as spontaneous. adventurous, and a people pleaser.
Lifestyle Family Photographer
Inspired by photography in her art classes at school, Serena took up her passion full-time in 2014.
When she is not capturing memories for families through maternity and newborn sessions, she is making memories with her beautiful family.
She loves a good jigsaw puzzle, drinks a piccolo, and enjoys attending concerts and live music.
twins as babies 4 and 5
I was so pumped for this session, as I have photographed this beautiful family before. So adding the twins in the mix made it so much more exciting.
A new space for me brings out so much creativity, and I love the challenge to find light.
I am always pretty chill during a session (as I guess that comes with experience).
I just let the family's energy lead the session. So when the older kids needed a break, we just focused on capturing the twins, or I played some games with the kids and started conversations.
We had a little bribery with the younger two, but they got their ice blocks at the end, because they smashed it. We got through it laughing and listening to 90’s music on a CD player, yes, a CD player operated by her 9-year-old daughter singing to Destiny's Child.
a beautiful balance of chaos and calm
It was definitely a conscious decision, as I wanted everyone to be present and didn't want to make the kids do anything they didn’t want to do, e.g., sit and smile.
So we played games and took breaks for a little play.
I also made sure mum and dad weren’t getting overwhelmed.
the messiness of life in a big family
I decided to include these as it’s a true reflection of the season of life they are in. If we cleaned up the toy room to perfection, the photos in that space would not tell a story. It would show a space in the home that hasn’t been enjoyed. The images in the toy room showed the two younger ones just playing with their favourite toys, and I noticed the older daughter looking through books, so I told her to keep doing that.
Mum said that’that'sally perfect as she is in her reading era. I posed mum and dad near the window as I wanted to show the twins coming into this world and mum and dad having a moment to embrace the quiet while the storm was right behind them—one of my favourite images I have taken to date.
the whole home
When I pulled up in front of the driveway, the first thing I saw was the caravan, and I knew we had to use it in the session.
I timed it all so as not to lose light in the house or miss sunset.
So I worked it out on the fly with the ideas, but was also conscious about the timing to work with the light. So it was a nice flow overall, and we captured where the family spent most of their time.
There’s a lot of skill in this session that comes from years of hard work
Thank you, Cindy. I don’t ever stop and think I’m amazing.
I always think it’s the clients that are amazing, or the house or the sunset was perfect.
I guess it is a skill, and I should give myself a hype-up now and then, haha.
