Colourscape is a 30-day photography project inspired by my favourite colour. I've been riding the colour wheel between blue and green, somewhere around aqua. It's inspired by the landscape that I grew up with and fuelled by nostalgia. They are scenes of the everyday and ordinary as I searched and found this colour in my world. I used freelensing, double exposures, and diptychs to tell this story with a Nikon D800 and 50 mm lens. The project had a profound impact on my emotions and the love I have for this land.
The video was inspired by Chloe Lodge and her beautiful presentation “To plant a garden is to believe in tomorrow’ for Phlock Live.
Technical note: My voice is softer than the song, so I am sorry about that. Just learning the ropes.

I have a vivid memory walking through long wild grass down a path trodden by little feet in sneakers and dusty boots.
Cindy (00:30):
The leaves of the gum trees sway in the breeze. It sounds like a wave of water crashing. There's a crunch under foot, bark and dry leaves. And there's a smell of the Bush that's both sweet and savoury at the same time. Our adventurous hearts are full, even though we haven't travelled far at all. This landscape was my backyard as a child and doing this project has brought up these memories.

It's not something that I imagined when I started. I thought I was just playing with colours, looking for a colour that I love, but the more I searched for the colour, the more these memories bubbled up and over. They are part of my childhood. They are nostalgic for me.
Cindy (01:40):
And I guess that's why this colour means so much to me. It got under my skin as a child. And I think that's why I found this project so easy. I just loved doing it. It brought me back to who I am as a person, to the person I was as a child, to the adult I am today. I live in the city, but my heart is in the country. I think it's always been that way. So it's been part of who I am and this project helped me realize that even more. It's a colour, a simple colour, but it has deep meaning for me.
